The EBU Bay Oaks United 02 Team won their bracket in the 2012 NorCal Premier State Championship Cups, which took place from September through November. The United 02 team won their Quarterfinal game against the number seed 1 – 0 on a Golden Goal by Max Walthers in the second period of extra time. Deigo Ottaviano was fantastic in goal; keeping the opponent scoreless with many incredible saves. The boys advanced to the Semifinals and again, won a nail biter game in penalty shootout 2 – 1. Tate Johnson scored the game equalizer with an assist from Zach Le-Nguyen to send the game into extra time.

The opponent scored 1 of their 5 penalty kicks as Mason Leonard blocked two while two others went wide. The United made 2 of 4 penalty kicks by Stefan Schneider and Luke Amato to preserve the win. In the Finals, the boys put together a flawless game, dominated the opponent and won 3 – 0. The score was 1 – 0 at the half with a goal by Stefan Schneider. The insurance goal was by Damon Meggyesy early in the second half. Zach Le-Nguyen put the game out of reach with the third goal. The defense and midfield were solid as they were all season long, anchored by Ben Marshburn, Alex Pennacchio, Kai Stern Yen, and Liam Neely. This was a fantastic end to a great season where the 02 United boys also took third place in the Silver Elite Division. It is a great accomplishment as this is the first year they played together. A big thanks goes to coach Marco Plascentia, for all his tutelage and guidance. The boys look up to him, not only as a coach but also as a “big-brother” figure. BRAVO – MARCO!!!
